Owl, Bass, Deer, Crappie and much more!!

Dakota and I got out to Horseshoe Bend on the Kankakee this morning. He tells me he’s “handicapped” because he got three stitches in his finger. I start out feeling sorry for him but that didn’t last long!!! He boats the first bass of the day before sunrise…
He sees a big bird land in a tree along the bayou and thinks its a hawk. We get up there as we are fishing and got treated by seeing this nice owl. Does anybody know what kind it is?
Then we started heading back to the boat ramp, but we before we get there we decide to bass fish some more.. and the fish start getting even bigger.
Dakota caught bass on 3 straight cast and then missed a hit on the fourth cast. One of the bass was this big boy…now that’s what I’m talking about!!! Nice Bass!!
Where am I in all this? I’m driving the boat and netting fish!! LOL!!! ggg Great time on the water. We also saw two deer that we jumped along the bayou. There won’t be many more days like this this fall. Hope everyone got out!!!

I got out on Long Lake yesterday and froze! I can’t believe how fast the weather has flipped. I tried for some bass with a worm and fluke but now luck. I also tried drifting for crappie. I was marking them on the vex but couldn’t get any takers. I was fishing with a jig tipped with a crappie nibble. Ice fishing won’t be long if this keeps up!! Come on Indian Summer!!!

Had a great time at the Outing on the Barbie Chain. I camped with Roger and the theme of my pics should be “Eating with Roger”. He brought some great food and we enjoyed it. Thanks Roger! I arrived at Pic a Spot about 12 noon on Thursday. Gmoney(Greg) and his son Rob were already out on the water when I got there. They wree catching bass on crankbaits all weekend. I went exploring the chain of lakes that afternoon did some fishing. It was fun learning some new lakes. Here’s the first pic of Roger cooking “Ribs” on Thursday night…
The next morning we got up and went fishing. Saw these HUGE turtles in the pads..
and then came back and Roger made pancakes and sausauge!!
That afternoon, Roger and I did some gill and perch fishing on the hump on Irish Lake..
Then on Friday night we went over to Back Water Lake and met ValpoGirl(Kristina) and Vince to some muskie fishing…
We had a great time and it was awesome learn from Vince how he fishes. We first fished with bass worms using 60lb florocarbon leaders, then started chucking big buzz baits and ended up trolling. No action but had a blast. Thanks Vince for taking us out.
The next morning the group gathered at Maria’s in N. Webster for breakfast.
We had a great breakfast and then heading out to the lake. ValpoGirl and I fished in the morning and she out fished me on my boat. We fished in Irish, and then tried grassy creek going to Tippy. Got to use the locks and that was interesting.
At lunch we came back and met everyone at camp and had lunch and then Dakota and I went back out gill fishing..
That night we went out to Rico’s for a fish fry with everyone and had a great time. Good food and good people. Hope others have pics of that time as I forgot my camera.
I went to a place that Dakota and I had a seen the day before. I threw buzzbaits and worms, frogs and lizards and missed one bite. I then started trolling for muskie. Didn’t do any good but had fun. Then headed back to camp for what else???? Roger’s cooking.

We packed up and then ended the outing out at Rico’s crappe fishing on the Honey Hole. What a weekend, thanks to every one that made it and helped it be a great weekend!!
